Prince Edward Island (PEI) looks like it walked out of a Jane Austen novel—rolling meadows, wooden houses, gabled roofs, endless skies. Mr. Darcy could be lurking around a corner. Or, if you’re Canadian, you’ll probably channel Anne of Green Gables instead.

In Charlottetown, standing tall at 62 metres, is St. Dunstan’s Basilica, a neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church built in 1812. But here’s the real twist—no building in Charlottetown can be taller than this Basilica.

Religion is a double-edged sword—used to control, manipulate, and divide. But when it’s used to preserve and protect? Now, that’s smart. PEI has managed to keep its skyline free from ugly skyscrapers. If only the same logic applied elsewhere.
