In Chennai’s Santhome Cathedral, history and faith intertwine in stone. One of just three basilicas in the world built over an apostle’s tomb, this one honours St. Thomas—Doubting Thomas himself.

Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, it’s an architectural blend of colonial grandeur and local soul. Step inside, and you’ll find a statue of Christ as a priest, arms outstretched, standing atop a lotus flanked by two peacocks—because if faith comes to India, it’s going to wear Indian colours.

People of all faiths walk through these doors. And that’s the thing about faith—it doesn’t need a passport. Religion might be imported or exported, but faith? That’s personal. Always has been, always will be.
