About Fat-Bottom Ladies Rock!
This project began years ago with a single conversation that stayed with me longer than I’d like to admit. An NRI friend of many years that I was planning to collaborate with once and who has known me from the time I was thin and then some 20 kgs plus, casually said, “You’re too fat to make a good first impression on international clients. So, instead of showing your face, we’ll show them your work. Because your work is damn good.”
It winded me, not the words, but how naturally they came out. Because I know, he didn’t mean harm. But he also didn’t see the problem. That’s what bothered me most: how normal it was to say something like that. And that’s the thing, isn’t it? How easily we say things we shouldn’t. We toss these around like compliments, jokes, or friendly observations.
Do we think a heavier body equals laziness? Why does “slim and fair” still read as “capable and cultured”?
Stereotypes aren’t just lazy thinking dressed up as observation. They are a convenient way to rank people without getting to know them.
Fat-Bottom Ladies Rock is my cheeky rebellion against the stereotypes of beauty, ability, and worth.
My 'Yoga Girls' are unapologetically themselves. They don’t seek approval. They claim space. And that's how it should be too.
